ENABLE Newsletter January 2024!
The ENABLE Newsletter
We are really excited to share the next edition of the ENABLE Newsletter. At this point in the project, we have already been working for 1 year, and we have undertaken many tasks that have been fundamental for the development of our project. In the past few months, we worked on the preparation for the development of the online training course. This preparation included tasks such as the focus group with practitioners and the mapping of good practices on trauma-informed teaching. We have also participated in many communication activities that helped us to share the ENABLE objectives and early results of the project. For the next year, we are thrilled that we will be sharing the trauma-informed teaching online course for teachers and heads of schools, which is one of the main results of the project.

ENABLE training piloting
ENABLE training piloting The ENABLE team is currently working on the development of the trauma-informed training course. Following the launch of the course, we will have a first round of pilots of the course, which will allow us to gather feedback from practitioners. Once we have undertaken the pilots and integrated the feedback, we will publicly share the online course, so stay tuned.
Development of the outline of the training course
As part of the preparation for the development of the training course, the ENABLE consortium has worked on the outline of the course. Before developing the course, we focused on summarizing the components of the module. This outline was based on literature review, the focus group with teachers, and previous examples of training on trauma-informed practices.
This outline has been a crucial part of the development of our training, serving as the baseline for the content we created for the training.
Design of the Online Training Course
One of the main deliverables of the ENABLE project is the production of a trauma-informed teaching online training course. The training targets primary and secondary school teachers and heads who want to gain knowledge on trauma-informed teaching and strategies for schools.
The consortium has been developing the content of this training, which will be available online, and it will include modules on intercultural education, social-emotional learning, building trauma-informed schools, leading trauma-informed leadership, and aspects of trauma-informed educational practices.
In the beginning of next year, we will be piloting the online course with a group of teachers from France, Greece, Italy, and Turkey.
Mental Health Day EU Conference and social media campaign
On the 10th of October for World Mental Health Day, the partners from SIRIUS Network attended the World Mental Health Day Conference hosted by the European Commission in Brussels.
The Conference had high-profile panelists, including governance representatives at the EU and national levels, civil society organizations, and experts on mental health. One of the most outlined aspects of the EU strategy on mental health is the inclusion and access to the right to mental health services for all. This statement aligns with the objectives of the ENABLE project, which advocates for the mental health well-being of migrant students, who are often forgotten on these issues.
Additionally, as part of World Mental Health Day, we wanted to strengthen the value that teachers bring to education and how they are essential actors in creating safe spaces for all students, including migrant students. For that reason, we shared a series of quotes from teachers that outline their engagement in learning new methods and willingness to develop social-emotional learning strategies for migrant, refugee, and displaced children in schools.
Integration Conference in Taillin
On the 16th and 17th November, the consortium partners from Mamak Mem presented the ENABLE project at the Integration Conference in Taillin.
The conference bringed together policy-makers and practitioners from Estonia and across Europe, to share visionary ideas, research results and best practices for the effective integration in diverse societies. The partners from Mamak shared the ENABLE project in the Panel 4 on “Integration Through Education: Best Practices in the European Union for the Integration of Non-Native Speaking Youth”.
